Animal Ice Rescue Operations (AIRO) is designed to provide first responders and ASAR specialists self-rescue and team rescue options along with both small and large animal rescue techniques. This training will start with classroom time and introduction to low angle ropes; and then spend the rest of the time on the ice working in all weather conditions.

High Angle Ropes/Collapsed Structure/Confined Space – Detroit, Michigan May 9th-14th, 2022

This customized combination training hits many topics needed for Type 1 ASAR teams. Training is provided through both hands-on and classroom instruction with primarily a small animal focus. Attendees must have working knowledge of low angle ropes, knots, anchors, and mechanical advantage. Instructors will review low angle ropes briefly and then quickly into high angle rope rescue considerations. In addition, we will be adding the ASAR introduction to collapsed structure and confined space into this 6-day training. Participants will need to provide proper PPE for this training.

This training is a great introduction for response team members for both in-house response teams and Ride-out disaster response and support resources. This class is two days and can focus on one or multiple species applications. This training is limited to zoo or other exotic animal facility partner personnel.

Wilderness & Remote First Aid – April 13th & 14th, 2024

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course is to provide individuals a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response, such as wilderness and remote environments, including disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes.
